Originally from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Matt earned a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. While there, he was a member of the Grammy-nominated UW-Eau Claire Jazz I. After graduation, he moved on to attend Manhattan School of Music in New York City and earn a Master’s in Music in Jazz Drumset while studying with John Riley.

Over the years he has had the privilege to share the stage with many great musicians including Christian McBride, Chris Botti, Ingrid Jensen, Arturo Sandoval, Ed Calle, Dick Oats, Wynton Marsalis, and Wycliffe Gordon.

Matt is currently continuing his career as a freelance drummer performing for audiences nationwide. He is also an accomplished concert percussionist as well as a licensed educator. Recent performances include the touring vocal quintet Five By Design and the rock/soul group Nees and Vos.
