Kurt has been a member of Five By Design since 1986. He joined the group while working on his undergraduate studies in voice and trombone at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Music and a minor in History.
Kurt grew up in Washburn, Wisconsin, where his love of music was encouraged by his parents and greatly influenced by his brother Terrence and friend Michael Swedberg, both of whom are current members of Five By Design.
As CEO and Artistic Director, Kurt's attention to detail is a strong point that has proven particularly useful in helping to manage and maintain a wide variety of aspects for the group from contractual and financial to technical and musical. Kurt does some vocal arranging for the ensemble and shares the truck driving duties with his wife Lorie, the soprano for Five By Design.
Kurt and Lorie married in September 1990 and feel especially blessed to be able to travel and work together, as well as with family and dear friends.
